President Donald Trump is reportedly throwing something of a hissy fit these
days over having to fly all the way to (gasp!) Canada, where hes expected to
(gasp! gasp!) do his job by representing the United States to the rest of the
The Washington Post wrote on Thursday that Trump has begun whining to aides that
his trip to the G7 summit of world leaders in Quebec is a waste of time compared
to his planned one-on-one with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
But its not just that he thinks hes too good for the summit. Its that hes
afraid of getting yelled at by all the other mean world leaders.
From the Post (emphasis mine):
"In particular, the president said Tuesday to several advisers that he fears
attending the Group of Seven summit in rural Charlevoix, Quebec, may not be a
good use of his time because he is diametrically opposed on many key issues with
his counterparts and does not want to be lectured by them.
The Post names three G7 leaders whom Trump is particularly not excited to see:
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, and
British Prime Minister Theresa May (whom he sees as too politically correct).
Officially, the White House has denied any apprehension on the part of the
president over the upcoming summit.
The president wants to go on the trip, National Economic Council director
Larry Kudlow told reporters on Wednesday. The president is at ease with all of
these tough issues.
Unofficially, though, Trump is notorious for being a petulant homebody who hates
leaving the comfort of his own properties. According to the Post, White House
officials have considered letting Trump off the hook and sending Vice President
Mike Pence to Canada in his place.
